The only damage the Padres could do off Billingsley were two walks, one by Jim Edmonds with one out in the 5th after Billingsley had retired the first 13 batters in a row, and a walk to Tony Clark with one out in the 9th after Billingsley retired 12 straight. A 5-run 8th innings put the game away for LA, not that they needed it with Billingsley tossing the gem. |

no-hitter and the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres by
the score of 9 to 0.
Billingsley was cheered on with every out from the 7th inning onward. The
adrenaline had to be just pumping through his veins. The atmosphere was
electric out there in Dodger Stadium this afternoon! He walked 2 San Diego
batters. What a day for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from
the 7th inning on. With every out, the electricity in the air mounted. Los
Angeles(NL) totaled 11 hits on the afternoon.
Greg Maddux(2-1) took the loss. What a show!' Joe Torre said. 'Billingsley
was great out there -- I'm happy that he got it.'
