April 13, 2008 Dodgers 9, Padres 0

Chad Billingsley of the Dodgers tosses the second no-hitter of the SOM season, four days after Mike "Bats In The" Pelfrey tossed the first. The only damage the Padres could do off Billingsley were two walks, one by Jim Edmonds with one out in the 5th after Billingsley had retired the first 13 batters in a row, and a walk to Tony Clark with one out in the 9th after Billingsley retired 12 straight. A 5-run 8th innings put the game away for LA, not that they needed it with Billingsley tossing the gem.

History was made in Los Angeles(NL) as Chad Billingsley(1-1) tossed a
no-hitter and the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres by
the score of 9 to 0.

Billingsley was cheered on with every out from the 7th inning onward. The
adrenaline had to be just pumping through his veins. The atmosphere was
electric out there in Dodger Stadium this afternoon! He walked 2 San Diego
batters. What a day for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from
the 7th inning on. With every out, the electricity in the air mounted. Los
Angeles(NL) totaled 11 hits on the afternoon.

Greg Maddux(2-1) took the loss. What a show!' Joe Torre said. 'Billingsley
was great out there -- I'm happy that he got it.'

April 9, 2008 Mets 3, Phillies 0 (Mike Pelfrey throws no-hitter)

Mike Pelfrey, in his first start of the year, allows 3 walks and a runner reaches on an error but allows the big zero in the hit collumn as he no-hits the Phillies. No chance at all for the Phils today, as Kyle Kendrick allows all 3 Met runs in the very first inning when Jose Reyes singles, steals second, is knocked home on a Carlos Beltran single and Carlos Delgado rips a 2-run nomerun over the fence. Kendrick and the Phillie relievers clamp down after that only allowing two hits and a walk the rest of the game, but it did no good with Pelfrey throwing the masterpiece. Only one Phillie got as far as second base today, Jason Werth when David Wright overthrew first base on a grounder which goes for the two base error. Another quick game, at only 2:28.

This is the second no-hitter thrown against either the Red Sox or Phillies in my SOM computer years, the other being when Gil Meche no-hit the Red Sox in 2006.

League notes: the two best teams in each league right now are a surprising two teams, the Mariners (7-2) and Padres (9-1). The surprising thing is that the real-life Mariners lost 101 games, and the real-life Padres lost 99!

Play account follows the game.

New York (NL) fans certainly got their money's worth at Shea Stadium. Mike
Pelfrey(1-0) pitched a rare no-hitter as the New York (NL) Mets toppled the
Philadelphia Phillies 3 to 0.

Pelfrey provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd
at Shea Stadium evening. He walked 3 Philadelphia batters. The tension
started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was
electrified. The pitchers took over after the 1st inning as neither team was
able to score again.

Kyle Kendrick(0-1) was given the loss. When asked how his stuff was out
there, Pelfrey looked a bit incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied 'A
bit better than average, I'd have to say'
