May 10, 2008 Giants 2, Phillies 1

The Giants win the game in the bottom of the 9th on a --- hit by pitch? Those details to come. Starter Jamie Moyer sails through the early innings, retiring the first 10 straight until allowing a base hit. Meanwhile, Ryan Howard hits a solo homerun in the 2nd inning for a 1-0 Phillie lead. With the score still 1-0 in the top of the 7th, when Moyer came to bat I elected to have him hit due to yesterday's 15 inning affair with all the relief action and Moyer pitching shutout ball. It backfires on me, as the Giants score a run in the bottom of the 7th on a Dan Ortmeier RBI single off Moyer to tie the game.

Ortmeier was also responsible for the winning run in the bottom of the 9th, and as I said before very painfully. Tom Gordon came in for the 8th, and after he commits an error alowing Aaron Rowand to reach first and a walk to Jose Castillo for the first two batters in the bottom of the 9th, Ryan Madson tries to squelch the rally. I really wanted to bring in stopper Brad Lidge, but he went 3 innings in yesterday's game. Madson does no better than Gordon did, as he walks Emmanuel Burriss to load the bases and hits Ortmeier with a pitch. Rowand just walk shome with the winning run, and the Giants win.

To sum it up, the Giants win the game in the bottom of the 9th without a base hit, An error, two walks and a hit by pitch get the job done for them. No one to blame today but Tom Gordon and Ryan Madson with sloppy pitching and fielding, with Gordon getting the loss.
