May 12, 2008 Red Sox 16, Twins 1

The game prior to this one I mistakenly didn't blog when I hit end game before blogging it, but just as well. The Twins got 3 runs in the 8th to hand the Sox another loss, the 5th straight loss for the BoSox.

That all changed today, as the boys from Beantown teed off against 7 Twins pitchers. 6 runs in the first inning got the Sox off to a good start, with a Jason Varitek grand slam thrown into the mix. Six more runs cross the plate in the 3rd inning, with the big blow from Dustin Pedroia as he knocks one into the seats for a grand slam. The Sox double the number of grand slams for the year in the first three innings of the game. It just went on cruise control from there, with David Ortiz and Mike Lowell adding in homeruns as the Homerdome lives up to its name.

Twins starter (and former and current Expo/National) Livan Hernandez gets ripped with the loss, but then what do you expect from a guy who allowed over 250 hits in the real season. Livan only retires one batter while allowing 4 hits, 2 walks and 6 runs including the Varitek grand slam. I did find out an interesting stat about Hernandez though. He, Derek Lowe and Brad Ausmus are the only current players in 2009 who have played 12 or more seasons and have never gone on the disabled list. Now that's gotta be saying something, especially for catcher Ausmus, to play that long and never go on the DL.

Dustin Pedroia blasted a grand slam as the Boston Red Sox smashed the
overmatched Minnesota Twins, 16 to 1.

The Minnesota fans didn't appreciate the big day Pedroia had. He slapped a
single in the 1st inning and depressed the partisan hometown fans with a
grand slam home run (his 4th of the season) in the 3rd inning. Boston
provided plenty of action in the 1st inning with 6 runs on 5 hits and the 3rd
inning with 6 runs on 4 hits. For the game Boston out-hit Minnesota 16 to 8.

Clay Buchholz(3-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 1 run. Livan Hernandez(3-5) was the losing pitcher.
