| The perfect tonic for a struggling team - play the Washington Nationals! The struggling Phils, 2-8 in their last 10, light it up against 5 Nats pitchers scoring double digits for only the third time this season and cruising to the easy win. Everybody got in on the action today with at least one hit and a lot of early scoring, 8 runs in the first four innings. Pat Burrell, with a 3-run first inning homerun, put the Nats in the 3-0 hole before they even got a chance to bat, as Tim Redding can't get through the 3rd allowing 7 runs in his worst start of the year. Meanwhile, Brett Myers gives the Phillie bullpen some much deserved time off going 8 innings for his first win since opening day. Oddly enough that was also against the Nationals, whose 16-30 record is the worst in the majors. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Shane Victorino robbed Lastings Milledge of an extra base hit.
Baseballs were flying all over the ballpark as the Philadelphia Phillies ran
roughshod over the seemingly hapless Washington Nationals. The Philadelphia
offense rolled up a total of 11 runs!.
The Washington fans didn't appreciate the big day Pat Burrell had. He belted
a three-run homer (his 10th of the season) in the 1st inning and slapped a
base-hit which plated a run in the 4th inning. Philadelphia ended up with 14
hits for the game while Washington had 5.
Brett Myers(2-4) allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Tim
Redding(3-3) was hit with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 2 and 2/3
innings.
