| Manny Parra of the Brewers, who tossed a no-hitter against the Cardinals in my first attempt at the season before our old computer shit the bed (the third no-hitter of the season at that point) almost gets the second no-no of the second season attempt. Parra no-hit the Pirates through the first 8 innings, but the gem would be broken up when Freddy Sanchez singles to lead off the 9th. Salomon Torres comes in at that point and retires the final 3 Pirates for the save in the battle of two of the worst teams in the majors. The only team with a worse won-loss record than the Pirates and Brewers is - you guessed it - the Washington Nationals! |

Manny Parra delivered 8 solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 2 to 0 at PNC Park.
Parra(1-4) was tremendous on the mound for Milwaukee. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 1 hit and 4 walks in 8 innings. Parra recorded 9
strikeouts. Milwaukee banged out 7 hits on the night.
Parra got help from Salomon Torres who earned his 6th save. Paul Maholm(2-4)
was the loser. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 3
walks.
