April 21, 2008 Red Sox 8, Rangers 1

A Kevin Youkilis 2-run homerun in the first inning proves to be all the Sox need, as they cruise to the win over Texas in the annual Patriots Day game. With the Boston Marathon being run today, the marathon runners weren't the only ones who could run today, as payback was made for the second-home double steal for the Rangers of a few games ago.

In the bottom of the 8th, Julio Lugo leads off with a walk. Coco Crisp, pinch-hitting for Kevin Cash, singles with Lugo stopping at second. Joe Thornton, in his first Sox start, bunts the runners to second an third with a sacrafice. Jacoby Ellsbury hits a slow roller to short, the Rangers throw home trying to get Lugo, but Lugo slides in safe for a run. Now with Crisp at third and Ellsbury at first, I figure what the hell. Ellsbury breaks for second, the Rangers throw for second and Crisp breaks for home. No play at second, the throw goes home and both runners are safe! A steal of home for Crisp, and Ellsbury gets the steal of second. Payback is a bitch!!

Even with the margin of victory being 7 runs, Manny Declarmen does get a save as when he came into the game in the top of the 7th the Sox only led by three, 4-1. A Sox run in the 7th and the 3-run 8th ups the lead to 7 runs, and Declarmen just stayed in and finished up for his first save.

Designated hitter David Ortiz had 3 base hits and scored 3 times as the Boston
Red Sox outscored the Texas Rangers 8 to 1.

Boston set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits.
After two outs Ortiz keyed the rally when he stroked a single. Kevin
Youkilis was next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run
(his 6th of the season). J.D. Drew struck out, unable to help the rally.
That early scoring was all that Clay Buchholz(2-1) needed. For the game
Boston out-hit Texas 8 to 5.

Manny Delcarmen was credited with his 1st save. Kason Gabbard(2-1) took the
loss. He gave up 4 runs and 3 hits in 5 innings. With this win, Boston has
a 12-9 record. They have been 7-3 lately. With this loss, Texas has a 4-6
record of late, 9-11 overall.
