| The Phillies begin a two game mini-series in Milwaukee and dispatch of the Brew Crew with ease. Cole Hamels is on his horse today, not even needing 100 pitches in getting his first win of the year with a two-hitter. The first hit ruined a shutout bid with a JJ Hardy homerun in the 3rd inning, and Hamels didn't allow the second hit until a Gabe Kapler triple with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Hamels even helped out with the bat, getting an RBI single. You may notice the interesting lineup for the Brewers, with pitcher David Bush batting 8th and catcher Jason Kendall hitting 9th. That caught my attention, so I looked into baseball reference about it. Up until the end of May, for the first 50 games of the season, in all but three NL games and three interleague games against the Red Sox the Brewers had the pitcher 8th with Kendall 9th. The final game of it was in a series against the Nationals in fact. I guess it didn't do the Brewers any good, as after the last game of the pitcher8th/Kendall 9th experiment on May 24th they sat 3 games below .500 at the time. After going back to the more typical batting order, as we know they made the playoffs for the first time in 26 years and lost to the Phillies in the first round. |

Geoff Jenkins went yard and scored 3 times and Cole Hamels pitched a 2 hitter
at Miller Park where the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers by
the score of 8 to 1.
Hamels(1-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Milwaukee
hitters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9
innings reducing his ERA from 4.13 to 3.27. Philadelphia totaled 12 hits on
the night.
David Bush(0-4) was the loser. 'We didn't have a whole lot of chances
tonight,' Dale Sveum said. 'Hamels just was too much for our guys.'
