April 2, 2008 Athletics 1, Red Sox 0

Maybe the Sox should have stayed in Japan, as the two games on American soil so far have been pathetic. The A's Rich Harden gets the shutout with the two-hitter, as the Sox offense sputters again. 0 for 9 for the top 3 with two walks, for an unbelievable 1 for 46 through the first four games for the top three in the order. The offense overall hasn't been to hot, only batting .180 for the first four games.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Mike Sweeney of the A's outhits the entire Red Sox team with a 4 for 4 day, although none of the hits were directly involved in the scoring. The A's run came in the 4th inning, with a Daric Barton single, Sweeney's single puts Barton to third, and Emil Brown drives him in with a single of his own. Three of the A's 5 hits were in that 4th inning.
