| The doctor orderes up the tonic, the Sox drank it up, and smoke the Tigers 10-0 in the Fenway opener to end a 5 game losing streak. Finally with a game in front of the hometown faithful and after only leading in a game for one inning out of the last 5 games, they get 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 4 more in the 4th and put it on cruise control from there. Daisuke Matsuzaka, David Aardsma and Javier Lopez hold Detroit to only four hits as they combine for the second team shutout of the season. The offense also shined, smacking out 16 hits with the big stars being JD Drew knocking in 3 runs, and Manny and Coco Crisp with 3 for 4 days. Big Papi finally gets his first hit of the season after an 0 for 30 start, with a single good for an RBI. Kevin Youkilis remains stuck in a rut however, going 0 for 5 while striking out 4 times. 15 of Youk's 28 atbats for the year have resulted in a whiff. |

Mike Lowell had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox
embarrassed the Detroit Tigers by the lopsided score of 10 to 0.
Detroit never recovered after Boston took the lead in the 2nd inning with 2
runs on 3 hits. Manny Ramirez kicked off the action when he laced a
base-hit. Lowell came next and he slapped a one-base hit. J.D. Drew then
would ground out. Jason Varitek stepped in and he delivered a single. Coco
Crisp stepped into the box and grounded into a double play. That was all
Daisuke Matsuzaka(2-1) needed. Boston out-hit Detroit for the game, 16 hits
to 4.
Kenny Rogers(0-1) was the loser. He was knocked around by Boston, allowing 7
hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
