April 26, 2008 Red Sox 8, Rays 6 (13)

Big days at the plate and running the bases give the Sox a hard deserved 13 inning win at the Trop. The biggest of all was Kevin Youkilis, blasting a 5 for 6 day including 2 solo homeruns. No slouch right behind was Jacoby Ellsbury going 3 for 4, 3 walks and a steal. Coco Crisp steals two bases, including scoring on one when him and Jed Lowrie attempt a double steal with the throw trying to get Crisp at third going into centerfield and Crisp trotting home. Dustin Pedroia saves his third hit of the game for just the right time, a 2-run single in the top of the 13th. Not all can be good though, as an 0 for 7 day for Manny drops his average over 30 points and below the .300 mark for the first time this season.

Jonathan Papelbon gets the win, coming in the game in the non-save situation in the 10th to try to hold the pesky Rays at bay. He succeeds in doing so, and after the Sox take the lead in the 13th and Paps at 2 2/3 innings for the game, Hideki Okajima tries for the save and converts it.

The play account follows the box score.

WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Edwin Jackson robbed Kevin Youkilis of a base hit.

Kevin Youkilis cracked 2 homeruns and scored 3 times at Tropicana Field where
the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays in 13 innings by the score of 8 to
6.

Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston came out on
top in the 13th inning. Julio Lugo led off and started the rally when he
doubled. Jacoby Ellsbury next to the plate and he laced a base-knock.
Ellsbury got a great jump and stole second easily. Dustin Pedroia followed
and he banged out a single. J.D. Drew was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. After another out, Youkilis came up and he drew a walk. This was a
game of many highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing
- 5 times in all.

The winning pitcher was Jonathan Papelbon(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2 and
2/3 innings. Hideki Okajima got the save, his 1st. Kurt Birkins(0-2) was the
loser in relief.

It was another victory for Boston at Tropicana Field. Now their winning streak
stands at 6 games. 'I'm glad to get the win', Papelbon said. 'We've got some
good momentum going now.'
