| A wild Clay Buchholz, some sloppy defense and serious lack of hitting in the clutch are what cost the Sox a win today. Three errors in the field don't help Buchholz's start any, as he walks 4 and allows 6 hits good for 5 runs in only 4 innings of work. A VERY early hook for Rays starter Edwin Jackson, yankeed after only 16 pitches, 2/3 of an inning and two runs via 4 Sox hits. Apparently it helped the Rays as after a 4-run outburst in the 2nd inning off Buchholz, five Tampa relievers hold the Sox scoreless despite 8 hits and 6 walks. The big story was this - an ungodly 15 runners left on base for the Sox today, including the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th with Jason Varitek striking out to end the game. |

Second baseman Akinori Iwamura had 2 base hits as the Tampa Bay Rays topped
the Boston Red Sox by a score of 5 to 2 at Fenway Park.
Tampa Bay came up with 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning when they had 4
base hits. The highlight belonged to Jason Bartlett who silenced Fenway Park
as he slapped a single bringing in two baserunners. Neither team managed to
score after the 4th inning.
The winning pitcher was Trever Miller(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3
innings. Dan Wheeler got the save, his 6th. Clay Buchholz(2-2) took the
loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 4 innings.
