| It looked like it was going to be a shootout in the early going as the teams trade runs in the first and second innings until the Jays get 2 in the 3rd for a 4-2 lead. The Sox rip it open in the bottom of the 3rd with a big 6 run inning, three of those runs scoring on a Jason Varitek homerun for an 8-4 lead after only 3 innings. The pitchers took over from that point as neither team scored again. The bat of David Ortiz finally comes alive with a double and his 2nd homerun of the year. I never thought it would take until the last day of April for Papi to hit his second homerun of the season. More than enough run support for Dice-K, as despite not being his greatest start with all the early scoring off him he hangs on for the required 5 innings and gets his major-league leading 5th win of the season. The win for the Sox also slowed the red-hot Blue Jays down a little bit, as before today Toronto had gone on an 11-1 run for a major league best 20-7 record. |

Designated hitter David Ortiz blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI at Fenway Park
as the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays by the count of 8 to
4.
Boston came up with 6 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 6 hits. That
scoring would be all that was needed. After the 3rd inning, neither team was
able to score.
Daisuke Matsuzaka(5-1) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory.
Dustin McGowan(3-3) took the loss. He allowed Boston 7 runs in 2 and 1/3
innings of work.
