| Ryan Howard's league-leading 19th homerun is pretty much the only Phillie highlight today as the pitching is just about as cold as this 25 degree Florida weather here right now. Kyle Kendrick, who had not won a game in his last 9 starts, self-destructs in the 5th inning when the Reds get 5 runs off him on a Jay Bruce 3-run bomb and a 2-run smash for Edwin Encarnacion. Former Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo goes an iron man 130 pitches for the win. Speaking of Arroyo, I noticed something about his real-life stats. He hit a homerun during the real season, and also stole a base. Now since homeruns are rare for a pitcher and stolen bases even rarer, that got me thinking if any other pitcher in history has both a homer and steal in the same season. I haven't been able to find out, but there can't be too many others. Just food for thought. |
