June 7, 2008 Phillies 7, Braves 3

Jayson Werth, just back from a stint on the DL, apparently healed up damn nicely as he carried the hot bat of the day as the Phillies try to get back on track. Werth goes 4 for 5 with a homer, scores 3 times and steals 2 bases but gets caught on a third steal attempt. Shane Victorino puts his major league leading average back to the .400 mark with a nice 3 for 5 day. Phils starter Kyle Kendrick can thank his teammates for the run support as he gets his first win in almost two months after 9 straight winless starts.

After the Phils upped the lead to four runs in the 7th, Rudy Seanez (who came in to pitch in the bottom of the 7th) was originally going to stay in for the three inning save sttempt when I decided not to pinch-hit for him when he came up to bat in the 9th since he went through the 7th and 8th innings fairly easily. But, when the first two Braves lead off with singles in the bottom of the 9th that plan changed and stopper Brad Lidge takes the mound with the tying run on deck. Lidge retires three straight Braves with no damage done and gets his 12th save of the season.
