May 31, 2008 Red Sox 5, Orioles 3

A 14 hit attack propels the Sox to the victory today, along with a bit of daring baserunning. You will notice in the steals for the game that Julio Lugo had 2 and Jacoby Ellsbury had one. What it does not tell you is that all three of the steals were in the 3rd inning. Lugo led off the inning with a single, and stole second base. Ellsbury rips a sharp single to left, and Lugo stops at third.

With the +7 Garrett Olson on the mound for Baltimore, I decide to get a little daring. Ellsbury takes off for second, and on the throw to second Lugo breaks for home. The throw is relayed to the plate to try to get Lugo, and he slides in under the tag for the steal of home!! Ellsbury also gets credit for the steal of second on the play, and would score on a 2-run homerun for Manny Ramirez later in the inning.

That is the second steal of home for the Red Sox this season, as Coco Crisp had one earlier in the year.

Manny Ramirez hit a homerun and had 2 RBI at Camden Yards where the Boston Red
Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 5 to 3.

Boston brought 3 runs across the plate in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base
hits. The highlight belonged to Ramirez who silenced the crowd when he
cracked a two-run shot (his 14th of the season). Overall Boston out-hit
Baltimore 14 to 7.

The victory was credited to Jon Lester(4-4) who went 6 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Lester got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained
credit for his 9th save. Garrett Olson(2-3) absorbed the loss. He allowed 9
hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
