| The hits are even at 9 apiece, and even with 7 walks allowed by the A's the Sox come up short by leaving 14 men stranded on the basepaths. Jon Lester does go 6 to rest the bullpen some after the recent troubles, and the Sox get a chance in the 9th when Huston Street walks JD Drew and Sean Casey hits a pinch-hit single to send Drew to third, but Jason Varitek can't make contact striking out for the final out. BTW, Jason Bergmann got the chance today (not yesterday as I had said before) for win number one, but allows three homers to the Reds as the Nats come up on the short end of a 6-1 score. The Nationals only had two hits in the game while Bergamnn screams "come on guys, help me out here!!" while falling to 0-12. |

The Oakland Athletics edged the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park by the score of
4 to 3.
Oakland had 2 runs cross the plate in the 3rd inning. The big moment was
provided by Emil Brown who silenced Fenway Park as he cracked a two-run shot.
Boston had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The win was credited to Dana Eveland(4-10) who went 5 innings allowing 3 runs.
Eveland got help from Huston Street who was credited with his 14th save. The
loss was charged to Jon Lester(9-7).
Gary Lucas was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
