July 26, 2008 Phillies 3, Braves 2

Chris Coste rips one over the fence for a 2-run clout in the 4th after the Braves had retaken the lead for the decisive runs and the Phillies cool off the Braves ending their 7 game winning streak and gaining a game in the standings. Cole Hamels, had he hit a homer during the season, would have gone back-to-back with Coste but instead Cole has to settle for a single. Hamels puts his batting average to the .304 mark, one of 8 NL pitchers batting over .300 this year.

Speaking of pitchers homeruns, there have been a total of 14 hit so far in 2008. Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs and Brandon Backe of the Astros have three homers each, along with Felix Hernandez of the AL Seattle Mariners!! Hernandez, who has never batted except for the interleague games since he has been a Mariner his entire career so far, in real life in the one game he batted in hit a homerun and a sac bunt off of Mets lefty Johan Santana. Because of that, his batting card against lefties has the entire first collumn except for the 12 as a homerun, and 5-12 in the third collumn except for the 8 is a homer.

In the SOM game on that date, Hernandez smokes 3 homeruns and drove in 7 runs. I didn't notice it at the time that it had even happened, and that has to be one of the best batting performances for a pitcher in history!

Chris Coste touched them all and had 2 RBI at Citizen's Bank Park as the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 3 to 2.

Philadelphia brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning
when they had 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Coste who came through for
the home fans when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. Neither
team managed to score after the 4th inning.

Cole Hamels(8-5) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Brad Lidge
earned his 21st save. Mike Hampton(0-1) took the loss. He allowed 8 hits
and 4 walks in 5 innings.
