| A very sloppy Clay Buchholz puts the Sox in a 4-0 hole after just one inning, a hole the team can't climb out of. All kinds of craziness for Clay today, including two wild pitches (one letting a run score), a balk (only the second Sox balk of the season), a strikeout where the batter reached base when Varitek dropped the third strike for a passed ball, and 6 runs allowed before being yanked in the 3rd inning. Even Royals pitcher Gil Meche got into the craziness, committing two errors. One the normal way via fielding, and one throwing the ball past first on a pickoff attempt. First time ever in SOM that I can recall that a pitcher threw past first on a pickoff attempt. Sean Casey and Jason Bay do their part, each with a two-run double, but it isn't enough. |
