Ryan Howard spoils John Maine's bid for a shutout with a 9th inning homerun but that is the lone highlight for the Phillies. Howard and Pat Burrell were the only Phillies with hits today, two for each from the thre and four spots in the order. Burrell was thrown out at home trying to score on Howard's other hit in the first inning on a 1-10 split card chance. Normally I might not have tried it, but being only the first inning I went for it trying to get an early run. It backfired on me obviously. BTW, the Nationals won today beating the Giants 5-2 to break their 14 game losing streak. Bad times in the capitol city, with the Nats 7-28 over their last 35 games and a major league worst 31-70 record. |
