| Scott Kasmir tosses the fifth no-hitter in the 2008 SOM, and also the first in history for a Tampa Bay pitcher as he no-hits the Royals. This will be the second time this year that Kansas City has been no-hit as Greg Smith of the A's no-hit them back in April. The Royals become the fifth team since 1971 to have two no-hitters pitched against them in the same season joining the 1971 Reds, 1977 Angels, 1996 Rockies and the 2001 Padres in that dubious club. Although this isn't real life, two of the four teams who had never had a pitcher throw a no-hiter for them have in my SOM this year - Johan Santana pitched one for the Mets in June for the first Met no-hitter in their over 45 year history, and Kasmir for the Rays today. That now leaves only two teams who have never had a pitcher throw a no-hitter for them, the Rockies (since 1993) and Padres (since 1969). |

Scott Kazmir(6-4) was on top of his game in Kansas City as he tossed a beauty
of a no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals. The Tampa Bay Rays won by a
score of 8 to 0.
Kazmir was obviously at the top of his game as he set the Kansas City batters
down like so many dominoes. He walked 3 Kansas City batters. The tension
was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Kazmir appeared oblivious
himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then,
did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Kazmir
racked up 14 strikeouts. Tampa Bay managed 12 hits in their victory.
Luke Hochevar(3-9) was the loser. Tampa Bay scored big getting 5 runs off him
in 2 and 1/3 innings. What a show!' Joe Maddon said. 'Kazmir was great out
there -- I'm happy that he got it.'
