Clay Buchholz(5-3), with relief help from Craig Hansen, shut down the Seattle
Mariners hitters at SAFECO Field. The Boston Red Sox came away with a 5 to 0
victory.

Boston scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Mike Lowell led off and
keyed the rally when he smacked a single. Sean Casey followed, but he was
set down on strikes. Jed Lowrie got his chance to keep things going, but he
went down on strikes. Jason Varitek followed and he popped a two-run clout
over the fence. That was all the runs Buchholz needed. Boston out-hit
Seattle for the game, 11 hits to 4.

Felix Hernandez(6-6) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in
5 and 1/3 innings.
