| Once again on 8/8/08 the number 8 seems pretty good as Chris Coste's 8th homerun of the year, good for a 2-run shot, breaks a scoreles tie in the 7th inning as the Phillies win their first game in the yearly battle of Pennsylvania after being swept by the Pirates back in April. Joe Blanton goes to 2-1 as a Phillie pitching scoreless ball, but Brad Lidge loses the shutout in the 9th by allowing two runs and still records the save (undeserved if you ask me). Third straight win for the Phils and they sit three games over the .500 mark for their best record all season. Speaking of won-loss records, Pittsburgh has the second worst record in the National League (45-70) above only the Nationals (39-77) . The Nats won their third straight game today for a season best winning streak and have won 7 of their last 11 for their best run of the year so far, but they still sit seven games worse than the Pirates. |

One run was the difference at Citizen's Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3 to 2.
Joe Blanton(9-8) looked very much in control throughout the night. He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3 innings.
The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.
Blanton was helped out by Brad Lidge who recorded his 24th save. Paul
Maholm(4-11) was the loser. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits
and 1 walk.
