| Josh Beckett strikes out 11 of the free-swinging Diamondback hitters as he goes into the 8th inning, but a not paying attention decision made by me cost him a win. With the score tied 3-all in the top of the 8th and one out, Chris Tracy hit what I thought was a single. With Beckett at almost 120 pitches, I called on Manny Declarmen from the bullpen. Only then after changing pitchers did I notice that Tracy overran first and was tagged out for the second out. Had I noticed, Beckett would have stayed in to try to finish out the inning. Mike Lowell then rips a solo homerun in the bottom of the 8th to give the Sox the lead that they keep. Declarmen, now in line for the win, was just going to finish up the game but after he allowed a baserunner Paps comes in to retire one batter (after he hit a batter) and gets the save after all. Had Beckett finished out the 8th, he would have gotten the win. The battle of the Drew brothers today is won by Arizona shortstop Stephen, as he has a say in all three Diamondback runs by going 2 for 5 with a double and knocs in 2 runs plus scores one of his own.. JD is no slouch, hitting an RBI double in the 1st inning, but lil' bro Stevie is just a touch better today. |
