The Phillies can get nothing going against a trio of Oakland pitchers besides 4 hits and lose their 8th of the last 11 games. The A's Carlos Gonzalez gets all the runs that Oakland needs delivering a clutch 2-run single in the bottom of the 6th. The bases were loaded with two outs for a clutch situation, so the clutch rating came into play as it would not have ben a hit otherwise. Such has been the story of the Phillies so far this year - what should have been. Tough luck loss for Kyle Kendrick as he falls to 2-8, as both runs were unearned. At least sort of unearned anyway, as the error to make the runs unearned was committed by Kendrick himself. |

At McAfee Coliseum, the Oakland fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Greg
Smith(6-5) finally bested his Philadelphia opposite, Kyle Kendrick(2-8), by
the score of 3 to 0.
Oakland came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning. The big moment was provided by
Carlos Gonzalez who made the crowd happy when he laced a base-knock scoring
two baserunners. Oakland had only 6 hits for the night.
Smith got relief help from Brad Ziegler who gained credit for his 2nd save.
The loss was charged to Kendrick. He was pinned with the loss despite not
allowing an earned run in his 6 innings of work.
