| It didn't look to good early when the Cardinals got two runs before the Sox even got to bat, but Kevin Youkilis changed all that. Youk is a house of fire today, giving the Sox the lead in their half of the 1st inning with a 3-run homerun, then adds a 2-run dinger (his 20th of the season) in the 5th. Tim Wakefield, despite 5 walks, gets the win with Chris Smith, Mike Timlin and David Aardsma finishing up. Aardsma gets his first save of the year to give Jonathan Papelbon a well deserved rest after Timlin allowed a run in the 9th, as Paps has three saves in the last four games. |

Kevin Youkilis ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox topped
the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 7 to 6 at Fenway Park.
Youkilis enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer in
the 1st inning, lined a single in the 3rd inning and bombed a two-run dinger
(his 20th of the season) in the 5th inning. St. Louis threatened in the 9th
but Boston was able to put down the rally.
The win went to Tim Wakefield(6-4) who allowed 3 runs in 6 innings. David
Aardsma recorded his 1st save. Kyle Lohse(7-6) was tagged with the loss. He
got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Youkilis said. 'Whenever
I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
