June 22, 2008 Red Sox 4, Cardinals 1

With 4 doubleplays turned behind him, Jopn Lester has an easy time of it pitching 8 very solid innings as the Sox get the win. No game-winning RBI today, as the go-ahead run scored for the Sox in the 6th when Jacoby Ellsbury, after a single, stole second with Julio Lugo standing at third base (he had walked and gone to 3rd on the single) and the throw by Cardinals catcher Jason Larue goes over second base trying to get Ellsbury and Lugo trots home. Ellsbury would score later in the inning on a sac fly for two runs on only one hit. "Mr. Automatic" Jonathan Papelbon goes the 9th for his 13th save, inducing a double play in the process.

Even with the 8 hits and only one run, the Cardinals only leave two men on base because of the doubleplays. The 5 DP's fall two shy of the major league record of 7 which has been accomplished four times, only two of those in a 9-inning game. Very fast game also, the time is only 2:08!
