June 27, 2008 Phillies 9, Rangers 3

Just as the Red Sox are making their first trip to Houston the Phillies are making their first ever trip to a different part of the state, to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and Ameriquest Park in Arlington. The top three homerun hitters in the majors play in this series in the form or Ryan Howard's 27, Chase Utley's 26 and the Rangers' Josh Hamilton who leads the AL in homeruns with 25. Utley hit his 26th today, but Hamilton and the rest of the Rangers are quieted by Brett Myers who strikes out 11 for a season high and gets the easy win.

The 11 K gives Myers 108 on the year, with his 100th being Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the 3rd inning. "Salty", as he is known because of his very long last name, in fact has the longest last name in major league history at 14 letters. Doing a little research, I found out that his total name at 20 letters is tied for the longest in major league history with William Van Ladingham, who pitched for the Giants for four seasons in the mid 1990s. Just some useless info for you.

Brett Myers whiffed 11 batters and Eric Bruntlett had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at
Ameriquest Field as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Texas Rangers 9 to
3.

Myers(7-5) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 6 hits and
2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Philadelphia had 13 hits for the night while
Texas had 8.

Kason Gabbard(7-3) was the loser. Myers, when asked about his 11 strikeout
performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we
lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it
feels great!'
