| Two teams doing nowhere near as well in SOM play as they should be do battle today. Tha Angels, winners of 100 games INF, sat 7 games below .500 before today. But Ervin Santana holds the Phillies in check all game, losing his shutout bid when Jayson Werth hits a solo homer in the bottom of the 8th to make the score 4-1. Francisco Rodriguez with his 62 INL saves comes in to try to nail it down, but the Phillies get to him for two runs in the 9th and load the bases with the winning run on second with two outs. Jose Arredondo takes Rodriguez's place on the mound, and gets Shane Victorino to hit a weak grounder to first to end the game on a sour note for the Phillies. Ryan Howard, whose 19 game hitting streak was snapped in the last game, goes 0-fer again today while striking out three times. And in other news, the New York Yankees' 13 game winning streak was snapped today by the Reds. That I believe would probably be the longest legitimate winning streak I have had in SOM play. The Giants had a 17 game winning streak last season, but that was during all that screwed up Barry Bonds bullshit and doesn't count. Garret Anderson touched them all and had 2 RBI at Citizen's Bank Park as the
Los Angeles(AL) Angels beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 3.
Los Angeles(AL) promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they
tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Anderson who
deflated the crowd as he smashed a two-run homer (his 7th of the season).
Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but Los Angeles(AL) was able to put down
the rally.
The winning pitcher was Ervin Santana(7-3) who allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3
innings. Jose Arredondo gained credit for his 2nd save. Adam Eaton(6-5) was
tagged with the loss.
Despite losing Charlie Manual was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
