Manny took it to Randy Johnson, slapping a 2-run single in the 1st inning and the crushing blow a huge 3-run homerun that knocks Johnson from the game in the 6th. That homer was part of a 5-run 6th inning, immediately after Arizona had scored 3 runs in the top of the inning to takes a 4-2 lead. Tim Wakefield will get his team-leading 7th win of the year as he goes 6, Javier Lopen sizzles with 4 K in 2 innings of relief, and with the Sox getting a run in the bottom of the 8th for a 4 run lead Chris Smith finishes up. |

Manny Ramirez homered and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox beat the Arizona
Diamondbacks by a score of 8 to 4.
The Boston fans enjoyed the offense provided by Ramirez. He stroked a
one-base hit bringing in two baserunners in the 1st inning and lofted a
three-run 'big-fly' (his 16th of the season) in the 6th inning. Boston
finished with 9 hits in the victory.
The win went to Tim Wakefield(7-4) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Randy
Johnson(6-6) was charged with the loss. His ERA increased from 3.53 to 3.84
as he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings.
Boston continued their winnings ways improving their record to 48-33. They
are 8-2 in their last ten games. Arizona can't seem to snap out of their
recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple
weeks.
