| A back and forth game early goes the Phillies way for good with a 4 run 5th inning on Chase Utley 2-run double and a Ryan Howard 2-run homerun. For Howard, it is his 30th homer of the year to tie teammate Utley for the NL homer lead. Or should I say, tied for only 2 1/2 innings as Utley homers himself for a solo shot in the 8th for his 31st and takes the league lead back. Arizona's Brandon Webb gets the loss in what was his chance to take the major league lead in wins, as his 12 wins remains tied with Johan Santana of the Mets. The Diamondbacks also have their 12 game winning streak snapped as the Phils go into the break on a winning note. As for all stars on the Phillies - Ryan Howard (1B), Chase Utley (2B) and Shane Victorino (CF) will all start at their respective positions. No pitchers will make the trip. There are also no Nationals on the team, so even though they sit 36 games below .500 someone will have to represent the team. The only choice I can see since none of the batters are all that great will be pitcher Odalis Perez (7-5, 2.98 ERA and two shutouts), and those stats are with his last start being his worst of the year with 6 runs and 13 hits allowed in 5+ innings and losses in his last two starts. Without him, the Nats would be even worse than they are!! |
