July 4, 2008 Yankees 3, Red Sox 2

Not much in the way of fireworks at Yankee Stadium today as the pitchers hold to form. Josh Beckett made one mistake - a 1st inning Jorge Posada 3-run triple after Beckett allowed a single and two walks with two out to load the bases - but that would be all the Yanks would need. A very impressive Mariano Rivera gets the last five outs, four via K, for his major league leading 30th save.

And not just today was Rivera impressive either. For the season, he has been unstoppable, as his stats will show - 0-1, 30 saves and an ERA of a miniscule 0.42. Only 17 hits and two earned runs allowed in 43 innings, and 54 whiffs. Oddly enough, in his one loss when he allowed the only two other runs he has allowed for the year, the runs were unearned!!

Jorge Posada had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at Yankee Stadium where the New York
(AL) Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 3 to 2.

Boston lost it in the 1st inning when New York (AL) did all their damage
scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed.
Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning.

The victory went to Darrell Rasner(4-1) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2
runs. Mariano Rivera got the save, his 30th. Josh Beckett(5-7) was the
loser.

'He gutted it out' Joe Girardi said of Rasner. 'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'
