| The Red Sox go into the all star break on a three game winning streak after a thrilling comeback. I blogged the play account after the game to make things easier to follow. The Orioles torched Daisuke Matsuzaka for 6 runs in the 3rd inning in an otherwise fine start for Dice-K, and going into the bottom of the 6th they trailed 6-0. Sean Casey knocks the first run home in the bottom of the 6th with a single, four more runs come home in the 7th with a Manny sac fly and a Youk 3-run homerun, and the comeback is complete in the 8th when Manny comes through again knocking anothe run home on a single. Things looked good when Jacoby Ellsbury leads off the bottom of the 10th with a stand up triple, but Dustin Pedroia gets the dice roll of snake eyes for the infamous lo-max to third which doubles off Ellsbury for two outs. Not to be denied, next batter J D Drew rips one into the center field seats for the walk-off homer for the thrilling comeback victory! Plenty of Sox to represent Beantown for the All-Star game, with Youk as the starting first baseman and Manny and Pedroia as reserves in left field and second base. Jonathan Papelbon (who got the win today) will be on the pitching staff, and he also runs second in the Cy Young voting. |

J.D. Drew went yard and had 2 RBI as the Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore
Orioles in 10 innings by a score of 7 to 6.
The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Boston won it in the
10th inning. Jacoby Ellsbury tripled. After an out was recorded, Drew
stepped up to the plate and he smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 15th
of the season) giving Boston the win and sending the home town fans into a
frenzy. Boston ended up with 16 hits for the game while Baltimore had 8.
The victory was credited to Jonathan Papelbon(6-1) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Alberto Castillo(1-1) was the loser in relief. He
surrendered 2 runs and 5 hits in 3 innings.
