| After not scoring for 19 straight innings and only scoring one run in the previous 30 innings, Jacoby Ellsbury doubles that total with one swing of the bat as part of a 3-run Sox 3rd inning, and a 3-1 lead. However, Daisuke Matsuzaka shows his wild side today by walking 6, throwing a wild pitch and hitting a batter with over 100 pitches thrown in less than four innings and a Jeremy Reed bases-clearing triple after four straight walks by Dice-K finally ends his day after 6 runs allowed (at least only 2 were earned). Justin Masterson goes a nice 3 1/3 of scoreles long relief and the Sox get two runs in the 7th to get back in it and get two runners in the 9th, but no one can score. The losing streak reaches five games, the longest of the season. Speaking of losing streaks, boy the Washington Nationals just can't catch a break this year. A 7-6 Nats lead over the Giants entering the bottom of the 9th in San Francisco is wasted away when Joel Hanrahan walks two batters and John Bowker hits his first homerun in a month for a 3-run, walk-off homerun as the Nats losing streak reaches an unbelievable 14 games. That is a record long losing streak in Washington, but the longest losing streak in franchise history was in the teams first year, 1969, when they lost 20 straight back in Montreal. Still a ways to go before they do that. |
