| The Phillies and the Mets play the third straight thriller with the Phils again playing comeback kings after an early Met lead, and this time it holds up. Kyle Kendrick looked to be in line for his 10th loss of the year when Brian Schneider and David Wright each rip 2-run homeruns in the 2nd inning for a 6-0 Mets lead. I was tempted to pinch-hit for Kendrick when he came up in the bottom of the 2nd with two outs and a runner in scoring position, but due to 24 innings being played in the previous two games decided against it even with Kendrick sucking the game out to that point. He ended up hitting a surprising RBI single for the first Phillie run. Then, the Phils turn it on with a run in the 5th and a big 6th inning (RBI singles for Rollins and Taguchi, a bases loaded walk for Utley for a run and a Howard 2-run double in the 6th) for 6 runs total and a 7-6 lead. A run scores for the Mets in the 7th, but Pedro Feliz drives one into the seats in the bottom of the 7th to give the Phils the lead back which they would keep. The Philadelphia Phillies edged the New York (NL) Mets at Citizen's Bank Park
by the score of 8 to 7.
Philadelphia jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring one
runner. New York (NL) had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The winning pitcher was Chad Durbin(2-2) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 1/3
innings. Brad Lidge was credited with his 17th save. The losing pitcher was
Tony Armas Jr(1-1) in relief. He gave up 1 run and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3
innings.
Jerry Manuel was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
