July 6, 2008 Yankees 3, Red Sox 0

Something very rare nowadays - a double complete game! Tim Wakefield and Joba Chamberlin lock horns in a Sunday night thriller, and not a bad game for Wake. He k's 8 including 6 in the first 3 innings, but allows 3 runs when Bobby Abreu singles, stolen base, a Wake wild pitch and Jason Giambi knocks Abreu home in the 4th and two more in the 6th when Melky Cabrera knocks one over the fence for a 2-run dinger.

All that is an afterthough though, as Joba Chamberlin tosses a no-hitter!! Only two Red Sox baserunners for the entire game, a Jacoby Ellsbury walk to lead off the game and Julio Lugo reached when A-Rod threw a sure out over first base in the 3rd. Chamberlin retires the last 21 batters in order and strikes out the Sox last chance for a hit, Dustin Pedroia, to end the game for his 10th strikeout for the day.

This will be the fourth no-hitter in my SOM for the year, two days after Ben Sheets tossed the third one. The other two in case you forgot were Greg Smith of Oakland no-hitting the Royals on April 19th and the Mets' Johan Santana no-hitting the Diamondbacks on June 12th.

Play acount follows the box score.

Joba Chamberlain(9-1) was on top of his game in New York (AL) as he tossed a
beauty of a no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox. The New York (AL) Yankees
won by a score of 3 to 0.

The partisan crowd cheered every Boston out from the 7th inning on. He only
walked one Boston batter. The tension started to build around the 6th
inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified. Chamberlain mowed down
10 Boston batters. New York (AL) had a total of 7 hits for the game.

Tim Wakefield(8-5) was given the loss. 'I gave it everything I had. It's
probably the greatest day of my life,' Chamberlain said. 'I was out there
focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching
my game.'
