July 4, 2008 Mets 3, Phillies 1 (13)

After a 9 game road trip and with only six home games over the last month, the Phils finally get back home but can't please the hometown faithful when Argenis Reyes gets a bases loaded 2-run single off of Clay Condrey in the top of the 13th inning. Lost in all of the extra-inning excitement were the performances of the two starters today. For the Phillies, J. A. Happ (in only his second career start) goes 8 innings only allowing two hits and one run, a David Wright homer. In any other game that would have been enough for a win, but not today when the Mets starter is the 12-2 and current Cy Young leader Johan Santana. Santana goes 7 before being pinch-hit for, while striking out 11 Phillies also allowing only one run. That 1-1 tie would hold from the 4th inning until the 13th.

WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Johan Santana robbed Jayson Werth of a base hit.

David Wright lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and Johan Santana struck out 11
batters as the New York (NL) Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies in 13
innings by a score of 3 to 1.

The score was tied at 1 after nine. New York (NL) came out on top in the 13th
inning. After an out was recorded, Ryan Church got things going when he
doubled. Jose Reyes stepped into the batter's box and he was walked
intentionally. Fernando Tatis then delivered a base-hit to load the bases.
Argenis Reyes was up next and he hit a single. One out later, Carlos Delgado
was the next batter, but he struck out. New York (NL) had only 6 hits for
the game.

The win was credited to Aaron Heilman(3-4) who went 2 innings allowing no
runs. Heilman got relief help from Scott Schoeneweis who gained credit for
his 5th save. Clay Condrey(2-3) was given the loss in relief. He allowed 3
hits and 1 walk in 1 inning.
